No. 9 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 22 Georgia Tech 4-2 - Seminoles.com

Chicago, Ill. – The No. 9 Florida State women’s tennis team (7-1) defeated No. 22 Georgia Tech (9-4) on Sunday, 4-2, in its final match at the ITA National Indoor Championship.  The Seminoles placed in the top six at the national event, making it a historic finish for the program.

Georgia Tech took a 1-0 lead over the Seminoles, claiming the doubles point with victories on courts one and three.  On court three, the Yellow Jackets finished with a 6-1 win over junior Emmanuelle Salas and freshman Sasha Hill. Junior Petra Hule and freshman Victoria Allen fell to the No. 37 doubles duo of Kenya Jones and Victoria Flores 6-2, in their third-ranked doubles match of the weekend as Georgia Tech, clinched the doubles point.

In singles, Kenya Jones of Georgia Tech gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one. This would be the last win that Georgia Tech would see as Florida State rallied to win the next four matches to clinch the victory. Senior Andrea Garcia got the Noles on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Nadia Gizdova on court six. Hill tied the match at two on court four with a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-4.

86th ranked Nandini Das gave the Seminoles its first lead, claiming a 6-3, 6-4 win on court three.  With Florida State now holding a 3-2 lead, all eyes turned to courts two and five where Hule and Allen were each battling it out in third sets. On court five, Allen dominated the first set 6-1.  Georgia Tech’s Rosie Garcia Gross went on to win the second set tiebreak to force a third set.  Allen and Garcia Gross were tied 2-2 at one point in the third set before Allen took over to win the next four games to take the set 6-2, clinching the victory over No. 22 Georgia Tech 4-2.

The Florida State women’s tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, February 15 for their annual Military appreciation match against USAF at 12:00 p.m. and FAMU at 5:00 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.

Noles in the Polls
In the latest Oracle/ITA poll, Florida State comes in at No. 9, which is the highest ranking in program history. Their highest ranking before this was No. 10 on April 13. 2019.

The Seminoles have one ranked singles player in senior Nandini Das, who was ranked No. 86 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll. Along with two ranked doubles pairs in No. 15 junior Petra Hule and freshman Victoria Allen, and No. 16 ranked junior Emmanuelle Salas and Allen.
